Tottenham Hotspur are set to name an interim manager for the remainder of the season following the sacking of Thomas Frank earlier this week. The decision comes with Spurs sitting just five points above the relegation zone, prompting urgent action from the club.
According to sources cited by BBC Sport, the club is confident of finalising a deal for a temporary replacement before the squad returns to training on Monday. The first-team squad has been given a nine-day break following their FA Cup exit in the third round, with the north London derby against Arsenal scheduled for 22 February.
Club officials have acknowledged that managerial options are limited mid-season. As such, Tottenham plan to appoint an interim manager now, while conducting a full search for a permanent successor at the end of the campaign. However, the temporary boss could still be considered for the long-term role if results and performance improve significantly.
Former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, currently in charge of the United States men’s national team, has been linked with a potential return. Another candidate is Roberto De Zerbi, who recently left Olympique de Marseille by mutual consent.
With crucial fixtures ahead, Tottenham’s immediate focus is restoring stability and steering clear of the relegation battle before finalising a long-term managerial decision this summer.
