Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Daniel Bwala, has predicted that the president will secure up to two million votes from the South-East in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s current affairs programme on Wednesday, Bwala said this would represent a four- to six-fold increase from the 127,370 votes Tinubu garnered in the region during the 2023 polls.
“I guarantee you, President Bola Tinubu is going to get more than four times, if not six times, the value of the vote he got. He’ll get up to two million,” Bwala stated.
Asked how Tinubu could achieve such numbers if Labour Party’s Peter Obi is on the ballot, Bwala claimed Obi’s political influence had diminished, alleging that the former Anambra governor had lost over 50% of his 2023 voter base. He also suggested Obi might not secure a presidential or vice-presidential ticket in 2027.
Bwala attributed the anticipated boost in votes to defections of southern governors to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and endorsements from opposition party governors, arguing these developments would strengthen Tinubu’s popularity in the South-East.
