Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has extended warm wishes to former President Olusegun Obasanjo as he celebrated his 89th birthday on Thursday.
In a congratulatory message shared on X (Twitter), Saraki described Obasanjo as a “living manuscript” of Nigerian history whose influence continues to shape the country’s national discourse.
“History is often written in the past tense, but the life of our dear former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, remains a living manuscript of the Nigerian story—still defying the odds and still demanding our attention,” Saraki wrote.
He also prayed for the former military head of state and two-time civilian president, noting that his voice remains relevant in moments of national uncertainty.
“And so, Baba, as you mark another year, we celebrate not just the length of your years but the relentless relevance of your voice. In times of national uncertainty, may your wisdom remain a trusted compass, and may your legendary wit remain as sharp as ever,” Saraki added.
President Bola Tinubu also congratulated Obasanjo, describing him as an elder statesman whose “towering influence” has contributed significantly to Nigeria’s development.
Tinubu acknowledged the former president’s continued engagement in national issues through his books and public interventions, noting that they reflect a deep sense of patriotism and commitment to nation-building.
Meanwhile, Obasanjo reportedly expressed gratitude for reaching the milestone age, stating that he believes God has kept him alive and healthy for a purpose.
The former president also responded to critics who have wished him dead, insisting that he remains strong and active.
“God has assured me He has more for me to do on earth, and He has given me the wherewithal to do it. I dey kampe as usual,” he was quoted as saying.
