President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Emir of Gusau, Dr Ibrahim Bello, who passed away on Friday morning in Abuja at the age of 71.
In a condolence statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the monarch’s passing as a “collective loss”, extending his sympathies to the government and people of Zamfara State, as well as the family of the late royal father.
“President Tinubu described the traditional ruler’s death as a collective loss beyond his immediate domain, citing his lifelong service at different levels,” the statement read.
The late emir was known for his distinguished public service career, rising to the position of Permanent Secretary in both old Sokoto and Zamfara states before becoming the 16th Emir of Gusau in 2015 following the death of his father.
He reigned for over 10 years, gaining a reputation for integrity, leadership, and commitment to peace and development in his emirate.
Confirming the monarch’s passing, the spokesperson for Governor Dauda Lawal, Sulaiman Idis, said the state government received the news with great sadness and extended prayers for the repose of his soul.
President Tinubu also prayed for Allah’s mercy on the late emir, describing him as a symbol of wisdom and humility whose leadership would be dearly missed.
