President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former President Goodluck Jonathan on his 68th birthday, describing him as a statesman whose contributions have helped shape Nigeria’s democratic evolution.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu joined Jonathan’s family, friends and political associates in celebrating the former leader.
The President noted Jonathan’s humility, simplicity and selfless leadership, particularly highlighting his historic concession after the 2015 presidential election, which, according to Tinubu, strengthened Nigeria’s democratic foundations and enhanced the nation’s global standing.
Tinubu also reflected on his past political engagements with Jonathan, acknowledging the support and counsel he said helped advance Jonathan’s political journey, especially in 2010 and ahead of the 2011 presidential poll.
According to the statement:
“President Tinubu believes Dr Jonathan’s statesmanship has continued to inspire many leaders, even as he takes up challenging international diplomatic responsibilities, particularly in promoting democratic culture and values in Africa.”
The President concluded by offering prayers for continued good health, peace and well-being for Jonathan, his wife Patience, and their family as the former President marks another year of life and service.
