Former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has identified Aston Villa and Manchester City as the primary teams capable of challenging the Gunners for the Premier League title this season.

Arsenal currently sit atop the Premier League table, two points ahead of second-placed Manchester City and three points ahead of third-placed Aston Villa, following a 2-1 victory over Wolves over the weekend.

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, Walcott said Aston Villa’s recent performances, including their 3-2 comeback win against West Ham, make them a legitimate title threat.

“I think so, I do. When you have a difficult start to the season, it can go one of two ways as a team and a squad, but Unai Emery has obviously got that confidence in them. They are playing some good stuff at this moment in time, so for me they are a problem. But I am concerned about Man City,” he said.

Walcott’s assessment underscores the competitive nature of the Premier League this season, with Arsenal, Manchester City, and Aston Villa all vying for the top spot as the campaign intensifies.
