Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has declared Tuesday, October 7, 2025, a school-free day to celebrate and honour teachers across the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced this in a statement on Monday in Awka, explaining that the decision followed the 2025 World Teachers’ Day, which fell on a Sunday.
“In view of the fact that the 2025 World Teachers’ Day fell on a Sunday, Mr Governor has approved Tuesday as a school-free day to celebrate and honour teachers in the state,” the commissioner stated.
Chuma-Udeh added that the Solution Parents League would hold a mega endorsement march in recognition of Soludo’s “revolution in the education sector,” joined by the Association of Private School Owners.
“All teachers, parents, and proprietors/proprietresses are expected to assemble at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, by 8:00 a.m. prompt, to give honour to whom honour is due,” she said.
Meanwhile, teachers across Nigeria used the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration to renew calls for improved welfare, better working conditions, and the full implementation of the 65-year retirement age policy.
Education stakeholders urged both federal and state governments to prioritise teachers’ welfare, improve infrastructure, and fulfil promises made to strengthen the education sector.
