Controversial Nigerian singer, Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, following his failure to meet the stringent bail conditions set by an Upper Area Court.
Portable appeared before the court on Monday in connection with a defamation of character suit filed by veteran Fuji star, Okunola Saheed, popularly known as Saheed Osupa.
The court granted Portable bail of ₦1 million, with two sureties in like sum. However, the conditions proved difficult: one surety must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), and the other must be a GRA property owner in Ilorin, backed by a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
The charges stem from a viral Instagram live broadcast, in which Portable allegedly accused Osupa of envy and sabotage, using insulting language and making unverified claims about music platform interference.
“This man dey try bring down my shine… Osupa carry tortoise for stomach… na him remove my song from the platform,” Portable reportedly said in the video.
According to the First Information Report (FIR 117(1) CPC), the incident was reported via a petition submitted by Osupa on March 21, 2025, prompting the Kwara State Police Command to arrest Portable on Sunday, April 13, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed Portable’s arrest and listed the allegations, which include criminal defamation, incitement, character assassination, threats to life, and conduct likely to cause public unrest.
Portable has reportedly confessed during interrogation, and the case remains ongoing with more developments expected.
