Shalamar to Headline Abuja Concert for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Celebration

Speaking about the concert, Bright Jaja, CEO of iCreate Africa, described Shalamar’s stop in Abuja as a “major cultural moment.”

Renowned American R&B group Shalamar is set to thrill fans in Abuja with a spectacular concert on October 4, 2025, coinciding with Nigeria’s 65th Independence celebrations.

The event, which will take place at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, is being promoted by iCreate Africa in collaboration with First Culture Limited. It promises an unforgettable evening of music, dance, and nostalgia as the Grammy-winning trio perform some of their timeless classics.

Shalamar, famous for hits such as A Night to Remember, I Can Make You Feel Good, Friends, and There It Is, remain one of the most influential R&B and funk groups of their era. With over 25 million records sold, their legacy continues to inspire both old-school enthusiasts and new fans worldwide.

Speaking about the concert, Bright Jaja, CEO of iCreate Africa, described Shalamar’s stop in Abuja as a “major cultural moment.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome Shalamar to Abuja this Independence Weekend. Their decision to include Nigeria on their tour is not just an honour, it’s a long-overdue gift to a vibrant community of music lovers who have carried their legacy for decades,” he said.

Tunde Babalola, Creative Director of First Culture, added that the event goes beyond entertainment, calling it a “musical bridge between the past and present.”

Tickets are currently available at Jabi Boat Club, El-Amin International School, House 43, and Istanbul Restaurant, Jabi Mall.

In a video message, Shalamar members Howard Hewett, Carolyn Griffey, and Jeffrey Daniel expressed excitement about returning to Nigeria. Daniel—credited with pioneering the “backslide” dance move later popularized as the moonwalk—promised fans that the Abuja show would truly be a night to remember.

This will mark Shalamar’s second Nigerian outing, following their 1982 tour that saw sold-out shows in Lagos, Ibadan, and Ife.

As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, Shalamar’s return is set to deliver a powerful blend of nostalgia and live entertainment for lovers of classic R&B.
