Senegal and Morocco will convene the 15th session of their Joint Cooperation Commission in Rabat on January 26–27, 2026, in a move aimed at strengthening their longstanding partnership and strategic ties, Senegal’s Government Information and Communication Office (BIC) announced.

The commission will review cooperation across sectors including economy, trade, culture, science, and diplomacy. Officials are expected to assess ongoing projects, explore new areas of collaboration, and may sign cooperation agreements or protocols. Around 30 agreements still under negotiation could also be discussed during the session.

In addition, Morocco’s state news agency MAP announced a Moroccan-Senegalese economic forum designed to help companies from both countries establish partnerships and launch joint projects.

Trade between the two nations has grown steadily in recent years. In 2024, Senegalese exports to Morocco reached 24.7 billion CFA francs ($44.6 million), up 26% from 2023. Imports from Morocco totaled 147 billion CFA francs ($265.7 million), an increase of 19.2%. The trade balance remains heavily in Morocco’s favour, highlighting the need for Senegal to diversify exports and expand local processing to increase value added.

The visit comes amid a sensitive backdrop: 18 Senegalese supporters remain in pre-trial detention in Morocco following incidents of hooliganism during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final. Senegal’s Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko called for calm, urging the matter to remain a sporting issue and stating that he is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with Moroccan authorities.

The 15th session of the Joint Cooperation Commission reflects both countries’ commitment to deepening bilateral relations while addressing economic, cultural, and diplomatic priorities.
