Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed has pledged his continued loyalty to the Labour Party (LP), the platform on which he contested as vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 polls.
Baba-Ahmed, 56, was the running mate to Peter Obi, who lost the 2023 presidential election to Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Following the election, Obi left the LP and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a platform supported by coalition leaders seeking to challenge the ruling APC.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday at the LP National Headquarters in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed emphasized that he would not follow Obi’s path. He reaffirmed his commitment to the party and expressed his readiness to serve Nigerians in 2027.
The former Kaduna North lawmaker stated that he is unconvinced by the ADC, describing its members as “disgruntled politicians” and asserting that his loyalty to the LP remains steadfast.
Baba-Ahmed vowed to make himself available to contribute to fixing Nigeria and advancing the party’s vision in the upcoming electoral cycle.
