A prominent political figure in Sokoto State, Senator Abubakar Gada, has formally returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signaling a renewed effort to strengthen the party’s presence in the state.

Gada, who represented Sokoto East Senatorial District between 2007 and 2011 under the PDP, announced his decision at the conclusion of a consultative meeting in Sokoto. He had joined the All Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2025 and played a leading role in promoting and stabilizing the coalition in the state.

“I have played a leading and instrumental role in the conception, promotion, and stabilisation of the ADC coalition movement in Sokoto state,” Gada said. “I also invested considerable time, energy, and political capital in building what was envisioned as a credible political alternative driven by the collective aspirations of the people.”

He highlighted his efforts to engage diverse political stakeholders in Sokoto, including bringing in Northwest coalition representative Malam Nasiru El-Rufa’i to expand awareness and participation.

However, Gada cited structural and leadership challenges within the ADC, including weak cohesion, lack of strategic clarity, and insufficient commitment at critical leadership levels, as factors in his decision to leave the coalition.

“After extensive consultations with political allies, stakeholders, and grassroots leaders, and careful reflection, I decided to withdraw from the ADC coalition membership,” he said.

Gada reaffirmed his alignment with the PDP, describing it as a “more structured, credible, and people-oriented” platform for advancing the aspirations of Sokoto State residents. He noted that his return followed statewide town hall engagements, grassroots consultations, and high-level political interactions aimed at strengthening unity, coordination, and public confidence in the PDP.

He pledged to continue promoting inclusive leadership, grassroots empowerment, constructive political engagement, and good governance, while working toward unity, sustainable development, and shared prosperity in Sokoto.

Participants at the consultative meeting, including Alhaji Hamza Gatawa, Hajiya Maryam Gade, and Alhaji Tambari Tambuwal, commended Gada’s courage and commitment to fostering a viable political movement capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
