SEC DG Calls for Inclusive Capital Market at United Capital Investment Forum

They discussed trust-building in underserved communities, product customization, grassroots financial literacy, and the role of digital tools in deepening market reach.

United Capital Asset Management, a subsidiary of the Pan-African financial powerhouse United Capital Plc, hosted the second edition of its flagship Investment Forum on Tuesday, June 25, 2025, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Themed “Advancing Financial Inclusion through Investments: Bridging Nigeria’s Knowledge and Wealth Gap,” the forum convened a powerful mix of dignitaries, regulators, media influencers, and financial literacy advocates.

The goal? To tackle Nigeria’s persistent investment knowledge deficit and unlock inclusive, sustainable economic growth.

Opening the event, Peter Ashade, Group CEO of United Capital Plc, reaffirmed the Group’s mission to drive inclusive wealth creation.

“Our goal remains to create meaningful conversations on the capital market’s role in building wealth and driving growth,” he stated, emphasizing the urgency for broader participation across economic classes.

Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and keynote speaker, declared financial literacy a national imperative.

He spotlighted the Investments and Securities Act (ISA) 2025, designed to protect investors, improve market integrity, and foster inclusive access—especially for Nigerians in the informal sector.

In a fireside chat, Dr. Agama and Ashade agreed that true financial inclusion requires more than access—it demands knowledge and confidence.

The duo also explored how digital media and trusted influencers can fight Ponzi schemes and drive awareness of long-term investment options.

The forum’s second half featured cross-sector perspectives on how to create an inclusive capital market ecosystem.

Dr. Odiri Oginni, MD/CEO of United Capital Asset Management, stressed the need to simplify financial education, stating: “It’s not about presenting products, but helping people understand finance, risk, returns, and diversification.”

A dynamic panel discussion followed, featuring:

  • Uche Uzoebo, CEO, SANEF
  • Abimbola Babasola (for Jude Chiemeka), NGX
  • Ugodre Obi-Chukwu, Founder, Nairametrics
  • Oler Oladele, Founder, Money Wit Club
  • Sola Adesakin, Founder, Smart Stewards

The forum reinforced United Capital Asset Management’s role as a catalyst for inclusive finance. With over ₦1 trillion in assets under management and 10 mutual funds—now including its Children Investment Fund—the firm continues to democratize access to secure, impact-driven investment options for all Nigerians.
