The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged to consolidate the gains of his administration over the last six and a half years by completing and commissioning several iconic and transformational projects across different sectors of the state in 2026.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said all the plans and ambitions of his administration for the year would be driven by the 2026 budget, tagged “The Budget of Shared Prosperity,” which is currently before the Lagos State House of Assembly.
He explained that the final full-year budget of his administration is anchored on four major pillars: a human-centred approach, modern infrastructure, a thriving economy, and effective governance.
With an expenditure profile in excess of N4 trillion, the governor said the 2026 budget is designed to deliver a model Lagos that is cleaner, safer, more prosperous, resilient, and inclusive.
Governor Sanwo-Olu made these remarks on Sunday at the 2026 Lagos Annual Thanksgiving Service themed “Grateful for Unfailing Mercies,” held at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos. The event was organised by the First Family of Lagos State in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
He said the thanksgiving service was an avenue to appreciate and celebrate God’s mercy over Lagos State and its residents, noting that divine grace has continued to sustain the state.
According to the governor, Lagosians will benefit from numerous construction and rehabilitation projects, including new educational and medical facilities, youth and sports centres, drainage and flood control systems, bus and ferry terminals, housing projects, water schemes, waste management plants, court buildings, and the Omi Eko project, among others.
“We are now four days into a new year, with 361 days ahead of us—each day filled with promise, potential, and opportunity to improve our State, our country, and indeed, the world,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“Under my leadership, we will continue consolidating the gains of the past six and a half years, guided by our THEMES+ vision. We will complete and commission many transformational projects across multiple sectors and in different parts of the State,” he added.
The governor noted that 2026 holds special significance for him as it marks his last full year in office, stressing that he is determined to make it a year of meaningful impact for Lagosians.
Among the projects scheduled for commissioning in 2026 are the Ojo General Hospital, Odo Iya-Alaro Link Bridge, the new Massey Children’s Hospital, the Central Food Security Systems and Logistics Hub in Epe, the new Psychiatric Hospital in Ketu Ereyun, Epe, and a new multi-storey office complex in Alausa.
Sanwo-Olu also listed major road projects to be completed this year, including the Igbogbo–Bola Ahmed Tinubu–Igbe Road; Agric Isawo–Konu–Arepo Road (Phase One); Gberigbe Road from Ewu Elepe through Gbodu Junction to Gberigbe Town; and the Adamo–Akanun–Agunfoye–Lugbusi Road, all in Ikorodu.
Other projects include the Opebi–Mende Link Bridge and its approach roads in Ikeja; the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway Phase 2A; the Magbon–Alade Township Roads in Ibeju-Lekki; and the Ijegun–Ijagemo and Akesan–Igando roads in Alimosho.
During his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, describing the President as the “father of modern Lagos” and crediting the First Lady with initiating the annual thanksgiving service tradition during Tinubu’s tenure as governor.
He also commended religious leaders for their continuous prayers and support for Lagos State.
The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, his wife Oluremi; the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa; current and former public office holders; and religious, traditional, and political leaders.
The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, read the First Lesson from Psalm 89:1–8, while gospel ministers led praises and hymns. Special prayers were also offered for President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, their families, the Lagos State Government, and residents of the state.
