Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged Nigerians to uphold the nation’s founding values of resilience, patriotism, and faith in God, stressing that Nigeria’s progress depends on the collective efforts of its people.
Speaking at the 65th National Independence Day Celebration Service held in Lagos on Sunday, the Governor described the occasion as both a reminder of hard-earned freedom and a call to renew dedication to nation-building. Represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Tayo Ayinde, Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering unity, peace, and development across Lagos and Nigeria.
He said Lagos remains a shining example of diversity and inclusion, promising that his government will continue to create opportunities for all residents regardless of ethnicity, faith, or background. The Governor commended religious institutions for promoting peace and social cohesion while urging Nigerians to remain hopeful and optimistic about the nation’s future.
“As we look back on our journey, it is clear that it is only God’s grace that Nigeria has weathered both trials and triumphs,” Sanwo-Olu said. “At 65, our nation still faces challenges. However, Lagos stands as a testament that with faith, resilience, and dedicated leadership, progress is within reach.”
In his sermon titled “A Rising Nation,” District Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church, Lekki Phase 1, Rev. Dr Paul Fadayini, urged Nigerians to celebrate God’s faithfulness and remain connected to Him. He expressed strong belief that Nigeria will continue to rise, urging citizens to be deliberate in praying for the nation’s transformation.
The service was attended by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu (represented by Mrs Funmi Omotoso), government officials, clerics, community stakeholders, and students. It featured prayers for political leaders, peace, unity, and the economic prosperity of Nigeria.
