The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to actively participate in the party’s ongoing electronic registration exercise.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the e-registration, which is taking place nationwide, as a civic responsibility and a fundamental requirement for genuine party membership in Lagos State.
He also encouraged young people to take advantage of the exercise to formally identify with the ruling party, noting that the process is open, free and straightforward.
The governor spoke on Tuesday after completing his registration at Ward 3, St. Stephen’s Primary School, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island. He explained that the exercise, scheduled to run throughout the month of January, is designed to enable both existing and new APC members to validate their membership through a digital platform.
According to him, the e-registration is being conducted simultaneously across the 245 wards in Lagos State and other parts of the country to digitally capture party members.
Governor Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the process requires members to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) for verification, after which personal details are confirmed and a photograph is taken. Successful registrants, he added, are issued a printed temporary membership slip upon completion.
“The APC e-registration exercise is what will validate and confirm that you are a card-carrying member of our party. Every party member who truly wants to be called a member of the APC should take it seriously. This is the minimum you need to show sincerity and commitment to the party. Nobody is asking for anything—just come, register and collect your slip,” he said.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the exercise at his ward, noting that initial technical challenges encountered on the first day had been resolved and that the registration process was now progressing smoothly.
He further disclosed that each of the 245 wards in Lagos State has been equipped with two tablets, a printer, internet connectivity and a backup power supply to ensure seamless registration.
Governor Sanwo-Olu therefore urged party members to create time to participate in the exercise, which he said takes only five to ten minutes once the required details are provided.
He added that the digital nature of the registration reflects the APC’s commitment to modernisation and transparency, while strengthening the party’s membership database ahead of future political engagements.
