Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to pray for the peace and prosperity of the country as the Lenten season begins.
In a message shared on her official X handle on Wednesday, Mrs Tinubu described Lent as a period of spiritual growth and self-reflection, urging citizens to embrace compassion and unity.
“As we begin this Lenten period, I pray that this time of spiritual growth, self-reflection, and drawing closer to God is committed to following Christ’s example of love,” she wrote.
She encouraged Nigerians to use the solemn period to strengthen their faith and relationships with others through acts of kindness and charity.
“May our prayers and acts of compassion and kindness deepen our faith and reflect on our relationships with others. I urge us to remember to pray for the peace and prosperity of our dear nation, Nigeria. I wish us all a blessed and fulfilled Lenten season,” the First Lady added.
The Lenten season commenced on Ash Wednesday, marking one of the most significant periods in the Christian liturgical calendar.
Lent, observed for 40 days excluding Sundays, is dedicated to prayer, fasting, penance and almsgiving. The season leads to Easter and commemorates the 40 days Jesus Christ spent fasting in the desert, a time of sacrifice and spiritual preparation for Christians worldwide.
