Rita Daniels, mother of popular Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, has come under heavy criticism on social media after posting a video of herself dancing with her son, singer Sammy West, in the midst of her daughter’s alleged marital crisis.
The video, shared on Instagram, showed Rita and Sammy West dancing joyfully to a trending song. However, many netizens found the post “insensitive” given the ongoing controversy surrounding Regina’s marriage to billionaire politician Ned Nwoko.
Days earlier, reports surfaced alleging that Regina Daniels had been subjected to domestic violence. A viral video appeared to show the actress surrounded by men before her brother intervened to defend her against alleged thugs purportedly sent by her husband.
Ned Nwoko swiftly denied the allegations, claiming his wife was struggling with “drug and alcohol abuse,” which he said had caused tension in their relationship.
The public fallout between the couple has sparked widespread debate online — and Rita Daniels’ recent video has only added fuel to the fire.
Several social media users took to the comment section to express outrage.
One user, @duru_maris, wrote: “You no just get shame. Them dey beat your pikin for marriage wey you force her enter and you get the audacity to come here come dance! You failed her as a mother.”
Another commenter, @annabe1118, added: “Greedy mother sell her daughter out for her own selfishness.”
@chi_babeeeee69 wrote: “Daughter dey cry, mama dey dance, ok oh.”
While some fans defended Rita, arguing that people grieve or cope differently, the general tone of the reactions was one of anger and disappointment.
As of Wednesday, neither Regina Daniels nor her mother has publicly addressed the backlash.
