RB Leipzig have announced the signing of Brazilian striker Romulo from Turkish side Goztepe as a direct replacement for Benjamin Sesko, who has joined Manchester United.
The 23-year-old forward has agreed a deal running until 2030, with the transfer fee reported at €25 million ($29.2 million) including bonuses.
Leipzig were in urgent need of a new striker following Sesko’s departure. The Slovenian, 22, sealed a big-money move to United for a reported €85 million.
Romulo enjoyed a standout campaign in Turkey last season, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists in 29 league appearances.
Leipzig finished seventh in the Bundesliga last term, missing out on European football for the first time since their promotion to the top flight. The club has been undergoing a significant rebuild under Jurgen Klopp, who is in his first off-season as Red Bull’s global head of football.
This summer’s signings include exciting winger Johan Bakayoko and promising midfielder Arthur Vermeeren. Leipzig also begin the new season under fresh leadership, with Ole Werner taking over as manager ahead of next weekend’s Bundesliga kickoff.
