Rafael Nadal, a four-time US Open champion, has announced his withdrawal from this month’s US Open, stating he would not “be able to give my 100% at this time.” The 38-year-old Spaniard, who has only competed at the US Open once since 2019, did not specify any injury or health issues behind his decision.
Nadal shared the news on social media, expressing his disappointment about missing the tournament. “The US Open is a place where I have amazing memories,” he wrote. “I will miss those electric and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe.”
Despite his withdrawal from the US Open, which begins on August 19, Nadal confirmed his intention to participate in the Laver Cup in Berlin this September. The announcement comes amid ongoing speculation about his potential retirement later this year. Before the French Open, Nadal hinted that his appearance at Roland Garros might not be his last.
Earlier this year, Nadal withdrew from the Australian Open due to injury and skipped Wimbledon to concentrate on the Olympics. Recently, he lost to Novak Djokovic in the Paris Olympic singles and reached the doubles quarter-finals with partner Carlos Alcaraz.
Nadal, who has won 22 Grand Slam titles, remains one of tennis’s most celebrated players, and his absence from the US Open will be keenly felt by fans and the sport alike.
