President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to fostering national unity and collective progress, emphasizing that “nobody is bigger than Nigeria, including myself as President.” This declaration came during a Sallah homage at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday, when a delegation from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), led by Minister Nyesom Wike, paid a visit to the President.
In his address, Tinubu spoke passionately about governance, describing power as a temporary trust from God. He emphasized that those in power, including himself, are mere custodians of the people’s trust. “It is only Almighty Allah that gives power,” said Tinubu, underscoring the necessity of serving the people with humility and righteousness.
Reflecting on the teachings of Ramadan and the ongoing Lenten season, Tinubu urged Nigerians to embody values such as discipline, tolerance, and shared responsibility in nation-building. He emphasized the significance of prayers, learning, and family values in uniting the country. “Such discipline instills understanding, sharing, and partaking in family values that bring us together as one family,” Tinubu remarked.
The President also praised Minister Wike for his notable achievements in the FCT, particularly in infrastructure development, civil service reforms, and urban renewal. He highlighted Wike’s role in addressing long-standing issues concerning property rights, revitalizing abandoned projects, and improving public services in the areas of healthcare and education. “Thank you, Wike,” said Tinubu, acknowledging the Minister’s continued efforts to transform the capital city.
Wike was lauded for his ability to work across Nigeria’s diverse regions, particularly in the northern part of the country, despite hailing from the South. This, Tinubu said, is a testament to the strength of Nigeria’s diversity. “His ability to work in the centre of the northern part of Nigeria is bearing fruit,” Tinubu observed.
In response to the President’s recognition, Wike expressed gratitude, particularly for being called “Mr. Infrastructure.” He assured FCT residents that his administration would continue its transformative projects, promising even greater developments in the coming phases. “It can’t be less than what we did last time,” he stated confidently.
In closing, President Tinubu called for Nigerians to prioritize unity and peace over personal ambitions, urging them to embrace harmony, inclusivity, and respect for one another, regardless of ethnic or religious differences. “Nigeria is greater than any one of us,” he declared.
