President Bola Tinubu has directed the mandatory use of NIN Authentication (NINAuth) for identity verification and authentication across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government.
This directive, announced in a statement on Tuesday by NIMC spokesperson Kayode Adegoke, aligns with the National Identity Management Commission’s (NIMC) mandate to provide a secure and reliable digital identity framework for Nigerian citizens and legal residents.
According to the statement, NINAuth will enable secure access to key government services, including SIM registration, passport processing, tax filings, driver’s license renewals, and financial transactions. It will also be used in administering government intervention programs.
The platform features a web, API, and mobile verification system that enhances data security, prevents unauthorised access, and gives individuals control over their data-sharing preferences. Users will be required to give explicit consent before their information is shared for KYC processes or other verifications.
“The launch of NINAuth is a critical step under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen the national identity infrastructure,” the statement read.
The NIMC NINAuth application will serve as the official channel for integrating identity verification into MDA systems, providing a secure single sign-on solution for convenient access to services.
This move is expected to streamline digital governance, promote transparency, and build public trust in how citizens’ personal data is handled and used.
