President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation following a thorough and merit-based selection process. The appointment, which takes effect on March 7, 2025, marks the official transition from the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, who will retire on the same day.
Ogunjimi, 57, was first named as Madehin’s successor last December. A subsequent competitive process, overseen by a selection committee comprising Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service, confirmed Ogunjimi’s appointment after three stages of assessments: a written examination, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews. This rigorous process highlights President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring that only the most qualified and competent individuals occupy key public service roles.
Ogunjimi, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos, is also a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his new role and urged him to carry out his duties with the highest levels of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to the service of Nigeria.
