President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointments of key officials for the newly established Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State, and a new Pro-Chancellor for the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.
Senator Binta Masi Garba has been appointed as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Iyin Ekiti. A highly respected politician, businesswoman, and administrator, Senator Garba previously represented Adamawa North in the Senate and served in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2011.
The university’s Governing Council also includes Prof. Joseph Olurotimi Sanya, Mr. Efe Emefienin Emmanuel, Dr. Joyce Ogunyemi, and Alhaji Dahiru Abdullahi Ruma.
The university’s Principal Officers have also been appointed: Prof. James Olugbenga Aribisala as Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Oluwole Olalere Dada as Registrar, Mrs. Adeniyi Rachael Ajayi as Bursar, and Prof. Isaac Oluwadare Busayo as Librarian.
In his statement, President Tinubu acknowledged the efforts of Senate Leader Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, who was instrumental in advocating for the establishment of the new institution in Iyin Ekiti.
The President encouraged the appointees to apply their leadership experience to steer the university toward academic excellence, innovative research, and growth. The Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti will admit its first students in September 2025.
In addition, President Tinubu appointed Prof. Muhammed Salihu Audu as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, succeeding Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami. Professor Audu, a distinguished academic and former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, brings vast experience to his new role.
