The Nigeria Police Force has advised Nigerians not to struggle or fight back when confronted by criminals, urging citizens to prioritise their personal safety in life-threatening situations.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin, gave the advice on Tuesday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television.

Hundeyin stressed that members of the public should remain calm when faced with armed or violent criminals, noting that preserving one’s life is more important than attempting to confront attackers.

“In the unfortunate event that you find yourself among criminals, do not struggle, do not fight, just stay calm and save your life first. We can always go after these criminals to have them arrested,” he said.

The police spokesperson explained that while law enforcement agencies are committed to pursuing and apprehending offenders, civilians should avoid actions that could escalate violence or endanger their lives.

Hundeyin also revealed that the Nigeria Police Force has recorded progress in its fight against criminal syndicates, including the notorious ‘One-Chance’ gangs operating in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

According to him, several arrests have recently been made in connection with the activities of the group, including suspects linked to the killing of a lawyer in the FCT.

“And also, we’ve achieved a lot in the area of arrests of this One-Chance syndicate. Just recently, a few days ago, we arrested the gang behind the murder of that lawyer, and the phone has been recovered,” Hundeyin disclosed.

He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to tackling crime across the country and encouraged Nigerians to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
