A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Tanimu Turaki has declared that it would be “immoral and unjust” for the party to endorse Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Ini Ememobong, made the position known on Thursday during an appearance on The Morning Show on Arise Television.

According to him, it would be inappropriate for a major opposition party like the PDP to support the presidential ambition of a candidate from the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“It is improper, it is immoral, it is unjust, it is unfair for an opposition party of the standing of the Peoples Democratic Party to endorse the presidency or the presidential candidature of President Bola Tinubu of the APC,” Ememobong said.

He, however, expressed optimism that the party’s ongoing reconciliation efforts would be guided by logic and the long-term interests of the party rather than emotions.

“So it’s part of the underpinning principle. We are hoping that reason will prevail over emotions,” he added.

Ememobong stressed that the Turaki-led faction would insist that any reconciliation process must strengthen the party’s role as a credible opposition rather than reduce it to a subordinate position.

Meanwhile, the party’s internal crisis appears to be easing as factions loyal to Turaki and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have resumed reconciliation talks ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for March 29–30, 2026.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Turaki confirmed that fresh discussions had begun among party leaders with the aim of uniting aggrieved factions within the PDP.

According to him, the talks, which started on Tuesday night, were already producing positive outcomes as stakeholders seek to restore unity in the party.

Turaki noted that party leaders were conscious of the timelines set by the Electoral Act and urged members to prioritise the overall interest of the party.

The former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs also expressed confidence that the ongoing reconciliation efforts could resolve the crisis, including differences with the Wike-led faction.

He further pledged that all pending court cases relating to the dispute would be withdrawn once the reconciliation process is successfully concluded.

Responding to questions about possible compromises, Turaki said his faction was prepared to make significant concessions to ensure peace within the party.

“On the issue of compromise, we are willing to bend as far as our necks and backs allow. We are ready to make all sorts of sacrifices in the overall interest of the party. PDP will not die. Everything possible will be done to make this reconciliation work; nothing is impossible,” he said.

He added that key issues, including participation in the upcoming national convention, would be discussed thoroughly by party stakeholders before decisions are taken by delegates.
