The Lagos State Government has announced a partial closure of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway for four weeks, starting Wednesday, February 11, 2026, to enable the Federal Ministry of Works to carry out essential rehabilitation work on the road.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that the project would cover the stretch from U-Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate, affecting both inbound and outbound lanes.

To minimise traffic disruption, the rehabilitation will be executed in two phases:

  • Phase One: From Wednesday, February 11, to Wednesday, March 4, 2026, affecting Abeokuta-bound traffic. Vehicles from Lagos/Abule-Egba to Sango Tollgate will be diverted to one half of the carriageway, approximately 20 metres away from the work zone. Traffic on the Lagos-bound lane will remain free-flowing. Work will proceed on one lane at a time, with traffic redirected to the completed section as rehabilitation progresses.
  • Phase Two: From Wednesday, March 4, to Wednesday, March 11, 2026, affecting Lagos-bound traffic between Obadeyi Bus Stop and Ekoro Junction. Traffic from Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate to Lagos/Abule-Egba will be diverted similarly, while movement on the Abeokuta-bound lane remains uninterrupted.

Commissioner Osiyemi assured motorists that adequate traffic management measures would be in place throughout the project. He urged road users to plan their journeys, follow traffic signage, and cooperate with officials, appealing for patience during the essential repairs.

The phased rehabilitation aims to improve road conditions, enhance safety, and ensure smoother travel along the busy expressway.
