A member of the House of Representatives representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency, Ginger Onwusibe, has said that Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, will not oppose the second-term re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu.
Onwusibe made the statement on Sunday at Lohum Umuimenyi in Bende Local Government Area during the flag-off of the “Project Switch On Bende,” facilitated by the Abia State Chief Liaison Officer in Abuja, Chief Frank Chinasa.
According to the lawmaker, both President Tinubu and Governor Otti have, through their performance, earned the right to seek re-election.
“What I have said about Mr President is my personal opinion, and I can tell you the governor will not oppose Mr President’s second-term bid. It’s the governor in Abia State that has the capacity to deliver Mr President,” he said.
Onwusibe also highlighted his political experience spanning multiple administrations, including those of former governors Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu. He stated that Otti has outperformed his predecessors and deserves a second term.
The lawmaker, a chieftain of the Labour Party in Abia State, also commended Chief Frank Chinasa for facilitating the solar lighting initiative, noting that more development projects could follow if given greater political responsibility.
In his remarks, Chinasa explained that the “Project Switch On Bende” initiative aims to improve security and restore public trust in governance. He revealed that 486 solar-powered street lights have already been installed across Uzuakoli and Umuimenyi Ward within a few months.
“This project is more than the installation of solar street lights. It is about restoring confidence in governance, creating safer streets, and enabling traders to extend their businesses into the night,” Chinasa said.
He added that the initiative aligns with the developmental vision of Governor Otti and was supported by the Niger Delta Development Commission under its “Operation Light Up the Niger Delta” programme.
Chinasa urged residents and community leaders to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their protection.
In separate remarks, the Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Uwabunkeonye Bassey, and the chairman of the occasion, Johnson Chukwu, praised Chinasa for attracting the project to the area. Chukwu noted that impactful leadership should be measured by the number of lives positively affected.
