OPSN Calls for Dialogue and Peaceful Protests Amidst Rising Public Discontent

The Organized Private Sector of Nigeria (OPSN), which includes key business organizations such as the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), Nigeria Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME), and Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI), has issued a statement addressing the planned protests by citizens in response to current socio-economic challenges.

As an apolitical umbrella body representing major business membership organizations in Nigeria, the OPSN emphasized the importance of dialogue and engagement between the government and concerned citizens. In their statement, OPSN highlighted that open and constructive dialogue is the most effective way to address the nation’s challenges and achieve the desired changes. The organization urged all parties to adopt this path of dialogue to ensure meaningful and lasting solutions for the benefit of the country.

Nevertheless, the OPSN acknowledged the citizens’ right to protest and appealed for any demonstrations to be conducted peacefully and orderly. They stressed that peaceful protests would allow citizens to express their concerns without infringing upon the rights of others or disrupting legal and lawful activities. Additionally, it would enable the government to respond appropriately and facilitate productive engagements that could lead to future collaboration.

The OPSN expressed concerns about the potential economic impact of mass protests, noting that their members are crucial drivers of economic growth and job creation. Any disruption to business operations could have significant repercussions on the economy and the livelihoods of the people. The organization reminded the public that many businesses are still recovering from the substantial losses incurred during the hijacked End SARS protests a few years ago.

In their call for peaceful protests, the OPSN also urged security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and properties during this period. The OPSN reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to promote a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria for all its citizens.
