The Chairman of Air Peace Limited, Dr. Allen Onyema, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its strong backing of Nigerian airlines on the global stage, describing the government’s intervention as pivotal in securing fair competition for local operators.

Speaking as guest speaker at the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) Induction Ceremony in Lagos, Onyema revealed that the federal government firmly supported Air Peace during its push to secure direct entry into the United Kingdom market. He disclosed that President Tinubu insisted on reciprocity in bilateral agreements, warning of consequences if Air Peace was denied rights of entry.

“President Tinubu and the Honourable Minister of Aviation did everything possible to support us. That bold stance made all the difference,” Onyema stated, stressing that such interventions have allowed Nigerian carriers to challenge long-standing monopolies and offer more affordable options for travelers. He cited Air Peace’s London operations, which have forced down ticket prices on the Nigeria–UK route, as a prime example.

NBCC President, Prince Abimbola Olashore, praised Onyema’s forthright remarks and reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to advocating policies that align with Nigeria’s long-term economic aspirations.

Founded just over a decade ago, Air Peace has grown into one of Africa’s leading airlines with over 40 aircraft, including Boeing 777s and Embraer 195-E2s, operating the largest network in West and Central Africa and flying Nigeria’s flag in intercontinental travel.
