Ondo PDP Spokesman Resigns, Criticizes Party Leadership

Kennedy Peretei's resignation marks a significant departure from the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, citing leadership issues and election failures.

Kennedy Peretei, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, has resigned from his position and membership in the party. The announcement was made in a resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Arogbo Ward 1, Ese Odo Local Government Area, on Wednesday, April 10, 2025.

In the letter, which was titled “I quit as the PDP in Ondo State leaves the intensive-care unit for the morgue,” Peretei expressed his dissatisfaction with the leadership of the party, criticizing its lack of direction and failure to win elections. He stated that the leadership was more interested in personal gains rather than the success and future of the party.

“I wish to inform you about my decision to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as those who claim to be at the leadership of the party have no intention to win any elections, now or in the future. It is difficult to work with people whose interests are only themselves and how they can use the party to trade every election year,” Peretei wrote.

Peretei, who had been with the party for over two decades, highlighted his early contributions to the party, having served as the State Financial Secretary between 1999 and 2003 and later as State Publicity Secretary from 2020 until his resignation.

However, he lamented that the same individuals who had held the party in a chokehold for years had effectively crippled its chances of success in recent elections.

“The PDP in Ondo State is now on its way to the morgue,” he said, echoing his frustration with the party’s inability to recover from a series of election losses.

He also called on those who relied on election funds and party patronage for survival to reconsider their involvement in what he referred to as “political banditry.”

Despite the sharp criticism of the party, Peretei has not yet revealed his next political move.
