The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has stressed that books remain irreplaceable in schools despite technological advancements. She made the remarks during a meeting with Charles Harder, US Special Envoy for Best Future Generations, on the sidelines of the Fostering the Future Together Global Summit organised by US First Lady Melania Trump in Washington.
Senator Tinubu highlighted the critical role of reading in broadening children’s knowledge without distractions from social media and digital platforms. She further explained that education remains a cornerstone of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. “If you want to help people, you must first understand who they really are. My husband understands this, just as he did when he was the Governor of Lagos State. He is trying to sanitize the whole system and have a formidable foundation that can be built upon,” she said.
The First Lady also revealed that child nutrition will soon be prioritized through a nationwide campaign spearheaded by her office, aiming to address the health and wellbeing of Nigerian children.
In his remarks, Envoy Charles Harder explained that Best Future Generations, a project initiated by First Lady Melania Trump, addresses issues affecting children globally, including food, nutrition, health, and protection from abuse.
The summit brought together over 45 First Ladies from different countries to discuss the effects of artificial intelligence on children and adolescents worldwide, highlighting the intersection of technology, education, and child development.
