Olabode George Criticizes President Tinubu for Foreign Trip Amid Nigeria’s Security Crises

The PDP chieftain condemns the President’s trip to France, citing ongoing insecurity and neglect of critical national issues.

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olabode George, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for traveling to France while Nigeria grapples with severe security challenges. Tinubu departed Nigeria on Wednesday for France and is expected to return in about two weeks.

In a strongly-worded statement titled “Whither Nigeria, My Beloved Country”, George expressed his concerns over the state of the nation, accusing the current government of ignoring critical issues and pursuing policies that threaten Nigeria’s unity. He pointed out that the country is on the brink of self-destruction, citing parallels with historical events leading to the collapse of past republics.

“This is exactly what happened during the 1930s and 1940s when dictators like Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini threatened global stability,” George said. “Today, with crises, insecurity, hunger, joblessness, and other challenges, President Tinubu has chosen this time to leave for Paris. For reasons best known to him and his handlers.”

George also condemned the administration’s focus on what he deemed trivial matters, such as the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, amidst widespread insecurity. “Nigerians don’t feel safe anymore, but the government is fixated on issues like recalling Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. What a shame!”

He further criticized the handling of the allegations against Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing it as an embarrassment to the country and pointing out inconsistencies in the actions of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Senate. He called the situation a manipulation orchestrated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

George also warned political leaders, including President Tinubu, that power is transient and that Nigerians are suffering under the current administration. He emphasized that the political class should remember that no one holds power permanently and urged them to be mindful of the people’s welfare.
