The Ogun State Government has, for the second time, suspended the process of selecting a candidate for the Awujale of Ijebuland stool.

The development was communicated in a letter dated January 20, 2026, addressed to the chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government and signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat.

The suspension follows a second petition submitted to the state government by Fuji King Wasiu Ayinde (KWAM 1). The petition was filed through his legal representative, Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN).

According to the government letter, the Ijebu Ode Council Chairman has been instructed to direct the Kingmakers to halt all ongoing selection processes and await further instructions from the state authorities.

This marks a continuation of the ongoing disputes surrounding the Awujale succession, highlighting the sensitivity and high stakes of traditional rulership in Ijebuland.
