Obasanjo Library Gives EFCC 7-Day Ultimatum, Demands ₦3.5bn Over ‘Unlawful’ Invasion

The library is demanding ₦1 billion in restitution for victims and ₦2.5 billion as compensation for reputational and business losses allegedly caused by the invasion.

The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), demanding a public apology and ₦3.5 billion in compensation over the alleged “Gestapo-like” invasion of its premises.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Managing Director Vitalis Ortese accused the anti-graft agency of carrying out an “unlawful” raid last Sunday, which he said was a direct assault on the dignity of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

According to Ortese, the incident caused damages estimated at over ₦1 billion, in addition to bodily injuries to at least 100 people and the seizure of vehicles belonging to those arrested.

The library is demanding ₦1 billion in restitution for victims and ₦2.5 billion as compensation for reputational and business losses allegedly caused by the invasion. It also called for a comprehensive public investigation into the incident.

“We have further instructed our lawyers that should these demands not be met in full within the next seven days, we shall have no alternative but to proceed to seek redress in a competent court of law… and in which case our demands will NOT be limited to the foregoing,” the statement warned.

The EFCC is yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
