The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has confirmed the derailment of a Kaduna-bound train which occurred at approximately 11:09 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at KM 49 between Kubwa Station and Asham Station.
According to the Bureau, six passengers sustained injuries, with no fatalities reported. A go-team of investigators has been deployed to the site to gather evidence, engage relevant stakeholders, and commence a full-scale investigation into the cause of the incident.
The NSIB expressed sympathy for those injured and assured passengers of its commitment to rail safety.
The Bureau stated that the investigation would focus on identifying direct and underlying factors behind the derailment and issuing safety recommendations to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Commenting on the incident, NSIB Director General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., said:
“We deeply sympathise with all who sustained injuries. The Bureau has deployed investigators to the site to ensure the root cause of this derailment is uncovered. Our commitment is to ensure safer rail transport for Nigerians through a transparent and independent investigation.”
The Bureau pledged to provide regular updates as the investigation progresses.
