The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that it will commence ward-level enrolment for the National Identification Number (NIN) across Nigeria beginning Monday, February 16, 2026.
In a statement on Wednesday, NIMC’s Spokesperson, Kayode Adegoke, said the initiative follows a presidential directive mandating the Commission to take NIN registration to the grassroots level, covering all wards nationwide.
According to the Commission, the exercise aims to ensure the comprehensive registration of every Nigerian citizen and legal resident, including children and adults, into the National Identity Database.
The enrolment will be conducted free of charge as part of the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at promoting inclusive governance, national development, and improved access to identity services.
NIMC urged Nigerians and legal residents yet to obtain their NIN to take advantage of the exercise, calling on families to enrol their children, parents, and wards within their communities.
The Commission also noted that the ward enrolment schedules, which will guide the rotational movement of licensed front-end partners and staff, are available on its website.
“To this end, the Commission has started engaging stakeholders at the national, state, and local government levels with sensitization and awareness campaigns on the importance, benefits, and uses of NIN,” the statement read. “State governments, heads of local governments, traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, and faith-based organizations are being consulted to ensure smooth and seamless registration across all wards nationwide. Members of the public are hereby encouraged to come out en masse to enrol their children, parents, wards, and family members.”
