Nigerian Railway Corporation has fully restored train services on the Abuja-Kaduna line following Monday’s operational incident that left 26 passengers injured.
Kayode Opeifa confirmed the resumption on Wednesday, noting that the swift response of NRC staff ensured minimal disruption and reinforced passenger safety.
“Passengers can now confidently book tickets, as improved safety and operational measures have been implemented to ensure secure and comfortable journeys,” Opeifa said on his X handle.
The incident occurred around 9:16 a.m. near Asham Station, involving train KA2. After departing Rigasa and stopping at Jere, a rear locomotive detached, rolled forward, and struck the power car and last passenger coach. The NRC clarified that it was not a collision between two separate trains, as initially reported.
Services resumed successfully on the AKTS return trip from Rigasa, Kaduna State, on March 17, aided by support from HRH Alhaji Ishaq Ibrahim Tanko, marking a return to normal operations along the corridor.
Opeifa emphasised that the corporation remains committed to passenger safety and reliable service, assuring commuters that train operations are now “safer and better.”
