The Nigeria Patriotic Front Movement (NPFM) has announced plans to stage a nationwide peaceful protest on August 1, 2025, in honour of victims of the #EndBadGovernance protests held in August 2024.
The group’s National Chairman, Abdulmajid Daudu, disclosed this at a news conference in Kano on Wednesday, saying the protest is part of activities marking the anniversary of the movement.
“On August 1, 2025, we will march across the nation to remember and seek justice for those who were unlawfully killed, missing, and imprisoned by the regime for protesting against bad governance last August,” Daudu said.
He called on the government to issue a formal apology to the affected families and compensate them in line with principles of justice and human dignity.
“We will not allow state coercion to rob us of the right to protest,” Daudu declared. “We will peacefully march as civilised people to assert our demands for fundamental social change.”
The group reiterated its key demands, including:
- Radical improvement in the security situation across Nigeria
- Significant reduction in the cost of living
- Reduction in fuel prices
- Immediate payment of all pension and gratuity arrears
Daudu emphasized that the protest would be peaceful and constitutionally grounded, stressing that “silence in the face of injustice is endorsement of oppression by default.”
He concluded by warning that if the regime fails to address the outlined issues, the people will be left with no choice but to explore citizen-led recall mechanisms.
