Lucky Fibres Becomes Pioneer in Intra-African Trade with Shipment to Mombasa

The Nigeria Customs Service has announced the successful facilitation of Nigeria’s first shipment to Kenya, carried out by **Lucky Fibres**, a subsidiary of the Tolaram Group.

This milestone marks a significant step as the company becomes one of the first to export goods to Kenya under the **African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)** Agreement.

The news was disclosed by the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, **Abdullahi Maiwada**, in a statement released on Sunday. The shipment, which is headed to the port of Mombasa, highlights the collaborative efforts inherent in the AfCFTA framework.

During a recent visit to the Apapa port to oversee proper documentation and verification for the shipment, **Olusegun Olutayo**, a Senior Trade Expert and Lead of Trade Enablement at the Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination Office, emphasized the significance of this development.

He remarked, ”It is not that we are doing it alone; I have already sent a message to the Secretariat in Ghana that there will be a shipment under AfCFTA to Kenya. I have also communicated with the AfCFTA implementation committee in Kenya. So this is the spirit we are building to ensure that we increase intra-African trade.”

This shipment not only represents a breakthrough for Nigeria’s export capabilities but also underscores the potential for enhanced trade relations among African nations as they work together to fulfill the objectives of the AfCFTA.

he initiative aims to reduce trade barriers, promote economic integration, and ultimately boost intra-African trade, setting a promising precedent for future shipments and collaborations.
