The Edo State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mitchell Ofoyeju, has decorated seven officers recently promoted to the rank of Deputy Commander of Narcotics by the agency’s Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.).
In a statement on Friday, Ofoyeju said the decoration ceremony, held at the NDLEA Command Headquarters in Benin City, was marked by pride, joy, and renewed commitment to the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
The newly promoted officers are Timothy Nku Odu, James Olusola Olarewaju, Akpabio Akpan, Anthony Odu Oko, Fidelis Nkazi Heijirika, Paul Akhazee, and Mohammed Danmusa.
Speaking at the event, Ofoyeju described the elevation as a call to greater service, stressing that the new rank should inspire the officers to intensify their efforts in tackling drug-related crimes.
He said, “The elevation of these officers to the rank of Deputy Commander of Narcotics reinforces the agency’s commitment to enhancing its operational capacity and maintaining a strong stance against drug-related crime in Edo State. This is a call to higher responsibilities in their noble career.”
The commander praised the officers for their leadership and resilience, while expressing confidence in their ability to handle greater challenges in drug enforcement. He added that as crime trends evolve, the NDLEA will remain steadfast in its mission to uphold the rule of law and protect Nigerians from the dangers of illicit substances.
Responding on behalf of the promoted officers, Timothy Nku Odu thanked the agency for the recognition, pledging continued hard work and loyalty. “To whom much is given, much is expected. We are glad with the promotion and pledge our dedication to our new responsibilities,” he assured.
