The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has officially endorsed a new passenger re-protection system designed to address flight disruptions due to operational, weather-related, and other infractions across the country’s aviation sector.
The solution, named the Propel Re-protection System, is a technology-driven platform that allows airlines to transfer passengers to partner flights in real time when delays or cancellations occur.
NCAA Director General, Captain Chris Ona Najomo, described the initiative as a collaborative product from Aviation Assist Hub, Avitech, and Leadway Assurance.
“The Propel system is a major boost for air travel efficiency in Nigeria. It ensures passengers are rebooked swiftly, reducing stress and uncertainty,” said Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, at a stakeholders’ forum in Lagos.
The system will begin its pilot phase in August and run for eight months, during which domestic airlines can test and adopt the tool.
Managing Director of Aero Assist Hub, Olumide Ojutalayo, stressed the platform was built with passenger welfare and operational efficiency in mind, and that it includes financing tools to assist airlines during disruptions.
Funke Junaid, Head of Legal at Aero Assist Hub, emphasized the platform’s legal structure, stating it protects customer rights and makes airlines contractually obligated to provide uninterrupted service.
The NCAA is optimistic that this innovation will revolutionize air travel in Nigeria, restore passenger confidence, and align the industry with global best practices.
