The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing a new management team for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). In a statement made at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, the NYCN’s National Public Relations Officer, Dotun Omoleye, described the appointment of Bashir Ojulari as Group Chief Executive Officer and Ahamdu Kida as Board Chairman as a testament to the President’s commitment to engaging the best minds to propel Nigeria to greater heights.
Omoleye emphasized that the new leadership of NNPCL comes at a pivotal moment, as the petroleum sector remains crucial to the country’s economic stability. The NYCN has called on the new management team to act swiftly to resolve long-standing issues surrounding the supply of crude oil to local refineries. According to the Council, addressing these challenges is essential to improving Nigeria’s energy security and ensuring the country maximizes the potential of its vast energy resources.
“We urge the newly appointed management team to take decisive steps in resolving the challenges surrounding the crude oil supply to local refineries,” said Omoleye. “A stable and transparent petroleum sector will create jobs, foster industrialization, and strengthen Nigeria’s global economic standing.”
The NYCN also assured its support to NNPCL and other stakeholders in the petroleum sector to ensure Nigeria gets the maximum value from its resources. The Council expressed its determination to continue supporting efforts that contribute to the growth and development of the sector, while calling for the promotion of policies that benefit all citizens.
In addition to addressing the petroleum sector, Omoleye condemned the recent killings of Northerners in the Uromi community in Edo State. He described the violence as senseless and called for a thorough investigation into the incident. The NYCN also urged Nigerian youths, particularly those of northern extraction, to reject violence and resist being manipulated for political or criminal purposes.
“We must all resist any attempts to divide us along ethnic, religious, or regional lines,” said Omoleye. “We stand united as Nigerian youths and are committed to protecting our nation’s unity.”
The National Youth Council of Nigeria concluded by reaffirming its support for the government’s efforts to enhance national security and stability.
