Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has arrived at the Federal High Court in the state capital for his arraignment by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
El-Rufai is expected to face multiple charges bordering on alleged corruption and abuse of office during his tenure as governor. The ICPC has accused him of financial misconduct, including the alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering.
Security presence around the court premises has been significantly intensified ahead of the arraignment. Armed personnel were deployed at key entry points to maintain order, as supporters and observers gathered outside the venue.
Proceedings are already underway, marking the first formal stage of what could evolve into a high-profile legal battle. However, journalists were barred from entering the courtroom, limiting media access to the hearing.
The former governor is being arraigned alongside one Joel Adoga before the Federal High Court. According to a statement issued by the Commission’s Head of Media and Public Communications, John Okor Odey, the charges were filed under suit number FHC/KD/73/2026.
In a related development, the ICPC has also instituted a separate case against El-Rufai and Amadu Sule before the Kaduna State High Court in the Kaduna Judicial Division. The case, marked KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/26, includes allegations of abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.
The Commission disclosed that both cases were filed on March 18, 2026, as part of its continued efforts to ensure accountability and combat corruption in public office.
While the Federal High Court arraignment is taking place on Tuesday, the date for the State High Court hearing is yet to be announced. The ICPC confirmed that the former governor has been duly served with all charges.
