NAMA Management Commends Air Traffic Services Personnel, Reaffirms Commitment to Training and Safety

Directorate of Air Traffic Services retreat emphasizes workforce empowerment as the foundation of aviation safety.

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to workforce development, training, and safety culture as essential components for advancing air traffic services in Nigeria.

Speaking at the Directorate of Air Traffic Services (ATS) Retreat, the agency’s management extended warm greetings to directors, general managers, heads of divisions, and ATS professionals, highlighting their dedication and professionalism in safeguarding the nation’s airspace.

Represented at the retreat by the Director of Human Resources and Administration, NAMA’s management commended the Directorate for organizing a timely and visionary gathering in Ibadan, describing it as an opportunity for reflection, assessment, and strategic planning.

The theme of the retreat—“Empowering People, Elevating Safety: Advancing Air Traffic Services Through Training and Culture (A Skilled Team for a Safer Sky)”—underscores the agency’s belief that while technology and infrastructure are critical, the human element remains central to aviation safety.

Management emphasized that air traffic safety is delivered by people, not technology alone, and pledged continued investment in personnel development, effective leadership, and a strong organizational culture. Continuous training, skill acquisition, and ethical standards were identified as the foundation for sustaining operational excellence.

The retreat, according to NAMA, provides a platform to assess current capabilities, identify gaps, and align national air navigation services with evolving ICAO standards and global trends. It also offers participants the opportunity to propose solutions that will strengthen both the Directorate and the agency overall.

The management reaffirmed its commitment to equipping staff with the tools, training, and supportive environment necessary to perform at their highest potential. Challenges faced by air traffic services personnel were acknowledged, and ongoing efforts to modernize systems and enhance capacity-building initiatives were highlighted.

Concluding the address, NAMA management praised the ATS Directorate for exemplary leadership, dedication, and professionalism, emphasizing that the workforce’s contributions are indispensable to the efficiency, safety, and reliability of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
