The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has officially debunked a viral audio recording falsely claiming the agency shut down the Tummy Tummy noodles factory in Anambra State and imposed a ban on tinned tomatoes and Maggi seasoning cubes.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, described the recording as misleading and entirely false, noting that it first surfaced in October 2023 and is now resurfacing on social media and messaging platforms.
“NAFDAC categorically disclaims the contents of the recording and fully dissociates itself from it,” Adeyeye said.
She clarified that the Tummy Tummy manufacturing facility was never sealed, and that thorough investigations confirmed the safety of Nigerian-made noodles.
“Mycotoxin levels and heavy metals were within internationally acceptable limits,” she confirmed.
On the claims of a ban on tinned tomatoes and Maggi seasoning cubes, Adeyeye emphasized that no such ban exists, calling on the public to disregard the audio and avoid spreading unverified information.
“NAFDAC remains proactive and committed to its mandate of safeguarding public health by ensuring that only safe, high-quality, and properly regulated food and drug products are available to Nigerians,” she added.
The agency repeated its call for responsible information sharing, urging Nigerians to verify any health-related news through official NAFDAC channels before sharing.
