The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has announced plans to convene the seventh National Council on AIDS (NCA), with the theme “Advancing National HIV Sustainability Agenda in the Changing Global Policy on Aid.”
This critical meeting, scheduled to hold in Lagos, is being organized with support from the Lagos State Agency for the Control of AIDS (LSACA).
It aims to galvanize national efforts around HIV response sustainability as global donor support patterns evolve.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by Dr. Daniel Ndukwe, Chairman of the Planning Committee, on Thursday.
The NCA, established under the NACA Act of 2006, serves as the apex coordination body for Nigeria’s multi-sectoral response to HIV.
The seventh session will review progress made since the last council and align strategies for future HIV interventions.
Dr. Temitope Ilori, NACA Director-General and Chairperson of the Council, emphasized the need for bold national strategies as donor funding declines.
“As donor landscapes evolve, Nigeria must take bold steps to ensure that HIV prevention, treatment, and support remain accessible and resilient,” she stated.
The meeting will include three thematic tracks:
- Advancing the national HIV sustainability agenda in a changing global aid landscape
- Multi-sectoral approaches to sustainability of HIV and related developmental diseases
- Strengthening sub-national structures for sustainability and health systems effectiveness
Stakeholders are also invited to submit policy and implementation memoranda. A review of the twelve resolutions from the sixth NCA will also be conducted.
