MMA2 Joins Global Community to Mark World Cleanup Day

The initiative, according to BASL, reflects its belief that collective action is vital in creating lasting impact and building a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future for aviation and the communities it serves.

In commemoration of this year’s World Cleanup Day, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), mobilized its staff for a cleanup exercise at the Hajj Park wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

World Cleanup Day, observed annually on September 20, unites governments, citizens, and organizations in over 200 countries to combat waste and raise environmental awareness. The 2025 theme, “Tackling fast-growing challenges: textile and fashion waste,” focuses on addressing the mounting global problem of fashion-related pollution.

Led by BASL’s Head of Safety, Nafisat Adeniran, the team donated trash bins and cleared waste in the park to encourage proper disposal practices. “Our mission extends beyond managing a world-class terminal; we are dedicated to fostering a cleaner and safer environment for the entire community,” Adeniran said.

BASL’s Acting Chief Operating Officer described the initiative as a core part of the company’s corporate social responsibility. “The donation of these bins is a symbol of our commitment to not just a clean airport, but a clean city,” he said, noting that the event reinforces the company’s vision of sustainability and leadership in both aviation and environmental responsibility.

Head of Corporate Communications, Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, added that waste management is critical in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “By supporting World Cleanup Day, we are not only promoting environmental hygiene but also contributing to broader climate action goals,” she said.

The initiative, according to BASL, reflects its belief that collective action is vital in creating lasting impact and building a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future for aviation and the communities it serves.
