The latest ATM Travel Trends Report 2025, compiled by Tourism Economics for Arabian Travel Market (ATM), forecasts a remarkable 50% increase in total tourism spend across the Middle East by 2030, climbing to an estimated US$350 billion. This surge is attributed to a combination of bold national strategies, robust aviation investment, and strong inbound and outbound travel trends.
According to the report, Middle East travel spending will exceed 2019 levels by 54% in 2024 and is set to grow at an average annual rate of 7% until 2030.
Key Growth Drivers
Business travel is projected to expand 1.5 times faster than the global average, with the Middle East becoming a central hub for international events. Likewise, leisure tourism continues its upward climb, thanks to enhanced air connectivity and an influx of high-net-worth travellers.
The luxury tourism segment is booming, with nearly 60% of visitors to the Middle East spending on luxury experiences—far above the global average. The region currently boasts over 170 luxury hotels, with nearly 100 located in Abu Dhabi and Dubai alone, and many more under development in Saudi Arabia.
Inbound and Outbound Highlights
Inbound travel from outside the region is expected to grow by 13% annually, with India, the UK, and China among the top international markets. Leisure spending from China is set to increase by 130% by 2030.
On the outbound side, Saudi Arabia and Egypt lead regional travel, with Thailand and the UK preferred for long-haul leisure trips.
Aviation and Infrastructure Investments
The region’s four largest airlines—Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, and Saudia—have collectively ordered 780 aircraft, highlighting a long-term vision to become a global aviation hub.
Sports and Event Tourism on the Rise
Building on the legacy of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and Dubai Expo 2020, the region’s appeal as a destination for sports tourism is expanding rapidly. The report predicts a 63% growth in sports tourism, with the 2034 FIFA World Cup in Saudi Arabia expected to drive further momentum.
The integration of ‘bleisure’ travel (business + leisure) is also playing a key role in the region’s tourism transformation.
