Manchester United signs Dorgu from Lecce in a deal worth £30 million.

Defender joins the Red Devils on a long-term deal, strengthening United’s backline until 2030.

In a move set to bolster their defensive options, Manchester United has completed the signing of Danish defender Patrick Dorgu from Serie A side Lecce. The deal, which is understood to be worth £25.2m, includes an additional £4.2m in add-ons based on performance and other variables. Dorgu, who has been a standout player for Lecce since his arrival in 2022, joins United on a contract that runs until 2030, with the option for an additional year.

The 22-year-old defender has been impressive since making the move to Serie A, featuring 53 times for Lecce. His consistent performances have caught the attention of top clubs, with Manchester United securing his signature to reinforce their defensive ranks. Dorgu’s strong, commanding presence in defense and his ability to read the game will provide a valuable asset to Erik ten Hag’s squad, particularly as the club aims to compete on multiple fronts next season.

Patrick Dorgu has also earned four caps for Denmark, further solidifying his growing reputation as one of Europe’s most promising defenders. Known for his leadership, aerial prowess, and versatility across the backline, Dorgu’s arrival brings much-needed depth and experience to a Manchester United defense that has shown occasional vulnerability in recent campaigns.

Speaking about his transfer, Dorgu expressed his excitement for the new challenge ahead. “Joining a club like Manchester United is a huge honor. I look forward to contributing to the team and helping us achieve our goals,” he said. “The club’s ambition, alongside the great history of Manchester United, made this move the perfect next step for me.”

This signing represents a significant investment for the club, who are clearly committed to strengthening their squad for the long term. Dorgu’s age and potential mean that he could develop into a key figure for United for years to come, providing stability at the heart of their defense.

For Lecce, losing Dorgu will be a blow, but the transfer fee will aid their own squad-building efforts as they look to remain competitive in Italy’s top tier.

With this addition, Manchester United fans can look forward to a more solid defensive lineup, as Dorgu aims to make an immediate impact and help the club push for success both domestically and internationally.
